Placements

Sheffield Women’s Aid welcomes placements for higher education students. Our dedication lies in nurturing and guiding students, providing them with valuable hands-on experience in the realms of both social care and the charitable sector.

We happily welcome students seeking placements, and although we've traditionally hosted students from social sciences like psychology, criminology, health, and social care, we're equally happy to embrace those in social work and medical studies. Our approach revolves around understanding the length and aspirations of your placement, ensuring we create an environment that nurtures your goals and helps you succeed.

Sheffield Hallam University

“I recently finished a 70-day social work placement at Sheffield Women’s Aid. I’ve enjoyed working with abuse survivors at the refuge and assisting them in restarting their lives after traumatic experiences. During my placement, I was given lots of opportunities to engage directly with clients in areas such as child protection, adult social care, MARAC, and non-molestation orders. This placement has provided me with numerous opportunities to collaborate with different members of the multidisciplinary team, as well as an understanding of adult and children’s social work. The staff at the refuge are excellent and supportive; they provide weekly supervision sessions to discuss caseloads, and chief executive Hollie has taught me so much about research and social work”
